Generally you have two choices when faced with the decision of exactly how and where to gather  your prospects/visitors email addresses.

It is either by creating an Opt-in Page and sending your traffic there, or adding an Opt-in form on your website. I’ll be discussing these two options and giving you some helpful  list building tips you can use in your campaigns.

Creating an Opt-in Page:

If your primary goal is  email list building per say, then this is the most effective way and also the most common method of list building. The advantage of this method is that if you send your visitor to a separate opt-in page, there are no distractions for the visitor and he or she has only two choices, either to enter their name and email address or not. The attention on that page is focused exclusively on getting your customer to join your list.

So by not having any other content like advertisements and links there [except one link taking them back to your website],which are a distraction, the customers are channeled to entering their name and emails as there are not so many options available to them. That is a proven fact.

One important thing is to always have your opt-in form high enough so that visitors will not have to scroll down in order to see it, which could be annoying and make them leave the page.

Adding an Opt-in form on your website:

Normally this can be a less effective email list building strategy, but remember that by having an opt-in box near the top of your main web page or any web page for that matter you are creating an opportunity for  visitors  to opt-in. Many of them who would have left your web page for good and never  return will end up on your email list.

It is also critical for you to use a good ‘autoresponder’ when building lists.
