Building Lists – How Many Lists Should You Have ?

Typically, when building lists of  subscribers in your autoresponder, for each niche or distinct group,  you should have three main lists.

Your first and largest list will be the list of subscribers that are opting in to receive your newsletter, free report or some other free gift  you had to offer them when you sent them to your opt-in page or optin box on your site. This is the first point of entry for your visitors where they leave their name and email address, so naturally this will be your biggest list and your aim is to keep building this list even larger.

Your second list should be your customers list. This is  a list of your customers that have already bought from you. When that customer buys your product he or she should be sent to a download page [that’s assuming it is some type of  info product] where there should be an opt-in form in a prominent position on the page. That opt-in form is to enable the customer to leave their name and email address  to receive updates or notifications of  future product  offers.

Building lists is very profitable, but although it is much smaller than your subscribers list, your  customer list  will be the most profitable one to you. It is because you will be able to sell higher ticket items to your customer list.

The third list will be a list of your affiliates and/or joint venture partners who are selling your products. Those are the people who are promoting your products and making commissions per every sale. It should be pointed out that those people will also be your customers in a way because most of them will be buying the product to study  and get to know it or even use it,  for sales purposes, be it at a price minus the commission as they would  buy the product through their own affiliate link [assuming we are talking about info products of course].

You should send this list regular emails with updates about your affiliate program and new products for them to  promote.

It is worthy to note that you should not overlook the tactic of turning your customers into affiliates as well,  if the circumstances allow, as they have already used your product and have first hand experience about it.

In conclusion,  building lists like a subscribers list and from there a customer list and an affiliate list is something you need to do to make your business  more profitable.
